Faculty Biographies

PASTOR STEVEN J. ANDERSON
Pastor Anderson began his studies for the Holy Ministry at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri in 1995, receiving the Master of Divinity degree from that institution on May 21, 1999. He was ordained into the Holy Ministry on July 11, 1999, and was installed as Pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church. He served there until October 31, 2003. Pastor Anderson accepted the Call to serve Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on August 25, 2003, and was installed as Pastor here on November 9, 2003. He is serving a second term as a member of the Board of Directors for the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and a third term as Chairman of Northern Illinois Confessional Lutherans, a group of Pastors committed to preserving Confessional Lutheranism.

MR. SCOTT SCHILLING (Principal, Grades 7-8, Sports Director)
Scott Schilling, the son of Elsie and the late Charlton Schilling, was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 30, 1954. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Chicago's southside, a congregation no longer in existence. Scott completed his elementary education at Bethlehem Lutheran School on Chicago's southeast side. Upon graduation in 1969, he enrolled and completed his four years of high school studies at Luther South High School, 3130 W. 87th St. in Chicago. He continued his studies at Concordia College, River Forest, Illinois, from where he graduated in February of 1980 receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Scott received his call to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in 1983 where he is currently serving as principal, teaching 7 & 8th grade. Scott was married to Ann Shumacker in August of 1978 and have three daughters. They live in Dyer, Indiana.

MRS. HILARY DUNDEK (Grades 1-2)
Hilary earned a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree at Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward, Nebraska. She also completed graduate courses, with an emphasis in reading, at Michigan State University. She is currently teaching grades 1 and 2 at Gloria Dei. Previously, she has taught at Christ, Jacob, Illinois, St. Paul's, Northville, Michigan, and at Zion, Summit, Illinois.

MRS. SHARON VOIGHT (Grades 3-4, Organist and Music Director)
Sharon Voight, daughter of Otto and Clara Pieper, was born in Merrill, Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church--Pine River, Merrill, Wisconsin, and also attended St. Paul's Christian Day School. She then graduated from Wausau Jr. and Sr. High Schools, after which she continued her education at Concordia Teachers' College, River Forest, Illinois, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master's Degree in Music. Mrs. Voight teaches 3rd & 4th grade at Gloria Dei and is also organist, choir director, and music director for the church and school. She has served as a leader at Beginning Teachers Workshops and Classroom Music Workshops sponsored by the Northern Illinois District, served on the Worship committee for N.I.D. Teacher's Conference for 3 years, participated on school accreditation committees for the N.I.D, and has also led Chicagoland Lutheran Education Foundation (CLEF) classroom music workshops. She was a long time member of the Lutheran Choir of Chicago, serving on its executive board. In 1984 received the Teacher Merit Award from Congressman Lipinski, and in 2000 received the Good News Award for Teaching Excellence in Chicago Lutheran Schools. Mrs. Voight is married to Don Voight, also a member of Gloria Dei. He is active in the congregation, currently serving as chairman, and as a member of the Senior Choir. Mr. and Mrs. Voight reside in Villa Park.

MR. JOEL MORITZ (Grades 5 & 6)
Joel Moritz, son of Ronald and Lorelle Mortiz, was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 13, 1973. He was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, Michigan. He was confirmed and completed his elementary education at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and School located in Munster, Indiana. Upon his graduation from St. Paul, Joel completed his four years of high school at Munster High School. He went on to earn a Liberal Arts Degree in Elementary Education at Concordia University, Illinois. While teaching at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran School, Brookfield, Illinois he earned his Master’s Degree. Joel returns to the teaching profession after seven years of working in the Student Life Department at Concordia University and now lives in Chicago. He is a licensed IHSA official for football and lacrosse. He enjoys fishing, biking, and playing the guitar.

MISS TRACY KRAUSE (Early Childhood)
Tracy Krause, daughter of Al and Eileen Krause, was born on August 10, 1978. She is a 2002 graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While attending Concordia she played bells with the Alleluia Ringers and was president of the Sign Language Club. Her hometown is Lansing, Illinois where she attended Luther East High School and St. John Lutheran Church. She has been teaching at Gloria Dei for 4.5 years now. Tracy coaches volleyball and is the treasurer of the congregation. She still enjoys playing bells and scrapbooking.

MRS. CHRISTINE BROENNEKE (Part-time)
Christine Broenneke, the daughter of the late Walter and Marilyn Grimes, was born August 29, 1959, in Pierre, South Dakota. She was baptized November 29, 1959, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onida, South Dakota and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. She is a graduate of Glenbard East High School in Lombard and a graduate of Valparasio University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Christine has a Masters of Science from University of Illinois, Chicago. She has substituted in Glenbard system and worked as an Aquatic Director at a YMCA. Currently, she is teaching at Triton College as well as part-time at Gloria Dei. Christine was married to Patrick Broenneke in 1990. They have three children Jacob, Katie and Gary.
